How to use the Pomodoro timer
Press play to start a 25-minute focus session. When it ends, an alarm sounds and the timer moves on to a 5-minute short break; press play to start it. After every fourth Pomodoro you get a 15-minute long break instead.
Open the settings (gear icon) to change the length of Pomodoros and breaks. Your settings are remembered in this browser.
Pause stops the clock and reset starts the current interval again. The time left also shows in the browser tab, together with the estimated finish time below the clock.
The music icon opens seven white noise sounds (rain, sea, forest, wind, thunder, leaves and water drops) that you can mix and set the volume of. Fullscreen mode hides everything else on your screen.
Keep your tasks next to the timer
FocusCommit is a Pomodoro timer and task manager for iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. See which task each Pomodoro went to, plan your week on a Kanban board and track your focus time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
A time management method created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You work in 25-minute focused intervals called Pomodoros, take a 5-minute break after each one, and a longer break after four. Read the full guide to the Pomodoro Technique.
Can I change the Pomodoro and break lengths?
Yes. Open the settings and set the Pomodoro, short break and long break in minutes. The settings also have one-click presets: 50/10, 60/10, 52/17 (the rhythm a 2014 DeskTime analysis found among its most productive users) and 90/20 for long deep-work blocks.
Does the timer keep running in another tab?
Yes. The timer works from the clock time, so the countdown stays correct when you switch tabs. Some browsers slow down background tabs, so the alarm can sound a little late there. The FocusCommit app gives reliable notifications.
Is this Pomodoro timer free?
Yes. It runs in your browser on phone or desktop, with no sign-up or download.
How is the FocusCommit app different?
The app links every Pomodoro to a task. It adds a Kanban board, the Getting Things Done workflow, statistics by task and project, an always-on-top mini timer on desktop, and sync with Microsoft To Do and Google Tasks. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows, and the free plan covers up to 3 tasks.
