The FocusCommit app has the same four columns with WIP limits, and it syncs your board between iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. Start a Pomodoro from any card, import tasks from Microsoft To Do or Google Tasks, and see where your focus time went. The free plan covers up to 3 tasks.

How to use a personal Kanban board
- Visualize your work. Put every task on a card in To Do. Paste a list from your notes and each line becomes a card.
- Choose what is next. Pull the few cards you will start soon into Next Action, most important first.
- Limit work in progress. Move a card to Doing only when there is room under its WIP limit. If the column turns red, finish something first.
- Finish and review. Drag finished cards to Done. Once a week, look at what got done and what is stuck, then clear Done.
What is a WIP limit?
A work-in-progress limit is the most cards a column may hold. Personal Kanban, as described by Jim Benson and Tonianne DeMaria Barry, has two rules: visualize your work and limit your work in progress. Fewer things in progress means less task switching and more finished work. Start with 3 in Doing and adjust.

Frequently asked questions
What is a personal Kanban board?
A board for your own work, split into columns that show where each task stands. Personal Kanban, the method by Jim Benson and Tonianne DeMaria Barry, has two rules: visualize your work and limit your work in progress. This board uses the four columns of the FocusCommit app: To Do, Next Action, Doing and Done.
What WIP limit should I use?
Start with 3 cards in Doing and about 5 in Next Action. If you often switch between tasks or leave work half-finished, lower the limit; if you are regularly blocked waiting on others, raise it by one. When a column goes over its limit it turns red, as a reminder to finish something first.
Where is my board saved?
In this browser, on this device only. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Clearing your browser data removes the board, so use Copy as text or Print or save as PDF to keep a copy. Text you copied can be pasted back into the board later.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. On a phone the columns stack one under the other. Use the Move button on a card to send it to another column, reorder it or edit its text.
How is this different from the Kanban board in the FocusCommit app?
This board lives in one browser. The FocusCommit app keeps the same columns in sync across your devices, imports tasks from Microsoft To Do and Google Tasks, lets you start a Pomodoro from any task and shows where your focus time went.
